Update on School Reopening Guidelines & Supplies
Yesterday, the CA Department of Education (DOE) released it's guidebook for the reopening of schools across California. It follows the state's Department of Public Health guidance (announced last week) and includes many of the same considerations found in the LA County Office of Education's (LACOE) Planning Framework, released on May 27.
The following are highlights from yesterday's CA DOE update on re-opening guidelines, supplies and equipment:
Guidance:
Face coverings: Students and staff should wear face coverings during all educational activities (at school or on a bus).
Physical distancing: Students and staff should engage in physical distancing (at least six feet of spacing between seats and in hallways and on buses) at all times.
Symptom screening: School districts should identify staff who can take temperatures for students and staff before they enter the campus.
Personal Protective Equipment: CA will provide a 60-day supply of Personal Protective Equipment to TK-12 schools, and will assist public schools (traditional and charter), private schools and childcare facilities in procuring necessary PPE, supplies and equipment.
In LA County, the following supplies will be distributed to meet near-term needs of schools & childcare programs:
No-touch thermometers for every school and childcare facility totaling more than 47,000;
Face shields for every teacher and childcare provider, totaling approximately 2.4 million;
More than 14 million cloth face coverings for staff and students;
More than 16 million disposable masks;
123,000 N95 masks for school-based health professionals, including those interacting with symptomatic students; and
143,000 gallons of hand sanitizer.

NEW HEALTH OFFICER ORDER ALLOWS FAITH-BASED & RETAIL SERVICES TO REOPEN, SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLKIT, AND INCIDENT REPORT
The County of Los Angeles is regularly updating resources on COVID-19 and offers today's update in an effort to keep you and yours informed. Please share the following up-to-date information:
New Health Officer Order Allows Faith-Based, Retail Services & More to Reopen
LA County announced, today, its commitment to keeping residents "Safer At Work And In The Community", and is further aligning its COVID-19 recovery efforts with the State’s California Pandemic Resilience Roadmap. The new Health Officer Order, to be issued later today, allows for the resumption of faith-based services, in-store shopping at low-risk retail stores, drive-in movies and other recreational activities.
The following are highlights from today's Order, to be issued by LA County's Department of Public Health (DPH), which emphasizes physical distancing requirements, cloth face coverings and other safety protocols must be observed:
Faith-Based Organizations
Faith-based organizations may resume services, with the number of congregants limited to less than 25% of the building's capacity, or a maximum of 100 people, whichever is lower.
Indoor & Outdoor Retail Shopping Centers
All indoor and outdoor retail shopping centers may now open for business at 50% capacity.
Flea Markets, Swap Meets & Drive-Ins
All flea markets, swap meets and drive-in movie theaters may also resume operations.
Pools, Hot Tubs and Saunas
Pools, hot tubs and saunas that are in a multi-unit residence or part of a homeowners association may also now open.
Public Protests
Individuals may participate in an in-person protest as long as attendance is limited to 25% of the area's maximum occupancy, or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower.
County residents may take part in all-permitted activities while continuing to practice physical distancing and wearing a cloth face covering when in contact with others. You are still encouraged to remain in your residences, as much as practical, and limit close contact with others outside your household (both indoor and outdoor).
Gatherings of people not from the same household are still prohibited, except for faith-based services and in-person protests.
NOTE: should COVID-19 data indicators warrant, LA County may adjust orders to reflect specific County needs. Read today's press release on LA County's revised Health Officer Order.
Dear Class of 2020...
As we approach the season of graduation ceremonies, LA County's Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer and LA County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Duardo have shared an update on in-person graduation ceremonies.
Here's what you need to know:
The LA County Department of Public Health Officer’s Safer at Home Order prohibits all public and private gatherings.
The Order does not allow any exemptions for graduation gatherings of any type in order to limit the spread of COVID-19. This means all in-person graduation ceremonies, including use of cars for drive-in graduations (even if one student at a time), are considered public gatherings and are therefore prohibited.
Virtual ceremonies are permitted and encouraged!

LA County WDACS launches free delivery service for older adults
LOS ANGELES, CA: Today, the Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS), with the support of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, announced a free delivery program for older adults and individuals with disabilities. This Countywide program, called Critical Delivery Service, will deliver groceries, household items, and other vital necessities to individuals who are unable to leave their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Items may be delivered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at no cost to the client. No application process is required; however, items must be pre-paid and ready for pickup. Deliveries may be scheduled by calling 1-888-863-7411 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Clients may utilize this service up to four times or 40 miles per month, whichever comes first.
"I am thankful that this program will provide food to our most vulnerable older adults as we confront the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “I encourage all who are eligible to use this resource to do so, in order to stay safer at home during this time."
“COVID-19 presents a threat to all of our LA County communities, but our older adults who may be more susceptible to complications due to the virus are particularly vulnerable,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “I recognize that our nutrition services are a lifeline for older adults who depend on these meals for sustenance. With the launch of our Critical Delivery Service Program, LA County will step up to ensure older adults and individuals with disabilities who are unable to leave their homes due to COVID-19 will receive the healthy meals they need to get through this difficult time.”
“In these difficult times, we must do all we can to help those who need the most,” Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said. “In the weeks and months to come, the Critical Delivery Service Program will become a vital service that will provide much-needed relief to our loved ones who are most vulnerable to COVID-19, so that they can remain safe at home but at the same time continue to receive the nutritious meals they need for their sustenance during this crisis.”
Supervisor Sheila Kuehl said, “The County is strongly and appropriately advising seniors and people with chronic illnesses to stay at home, but they still have to eat! This new delivery service should make it much easier for people staying home to get groceries without jeopardizing their own health or the health of their neighbors.”
"This new program will allow residents who qualify to get their groceries delivered straight to their door, free of charge, so they can stay safer at home," said Supervisor Janice Hahn. "We are trying new, innovative ways to make sure that everyone in LA County has the resources they need to get through this crisis."
“Thousands of older and dependent adults are now responsibly practicing Safer at Home principles, but in order to protect themselves and their loved ones, they need help bringing groceries and other essentials home,” said Otto Solórzano, Acting Director of WDACS. “LA County’s new Critical Delivery Service program will enable these residents to stay at home and still have food on their table.”

(213) 359-0795 or rsantana@bos.lacounty.gov
The following is a statement from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis regarding the new drive-up COVID-19 testing site at the East Los Angeles Community College:
“After working closely with the Los Angeles County Department of Fire and the Office of Emergency Management, I am pleased to announce a new drive-up COVID-19 mobile testing site at East Los Angeles Community College. This drive-up site will provide individuals in East Los Angeles, Monterey Park, and surrounding communities a quick and safe way to get tested in order to slow the spread of this virus. I thank Los Angeles Community College District Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez and the District’s Board of Trustees for making this space available to the community.
"Last week, I was glad to announce the opening of the Pomona Fairplex mobile testing site to serve East San Gabriel Valley residents. I look forward to bringing additional testing sites in my District. Please visit coronavirus.lacity.org/testing to schedule an appointment at a COVID-19 mobile testing site and to find out if you are eligible to be tested at this time.
“I will continue working with County Departments, as well as health care professionals, to build a network of mobile COVID-19 testing sites throughout Los Angeles County to respond as quickly as possible to the needs of our communities.”
